The Master of Arts in Diaconal Ministry degree prepares you for ministry geared towards service.
The Master of Arts in Diaconal Ministry (MADM) degree is designed to provide education and formation for those called to serve as a Deacon on the Word and Service roster of the ELCA and for similar positions in other denominations.
The MADM equips leaders in one or more areas of specialization such as education, administration, outreach and evangelism, pastoral care, music and the arts. The degree combines academic coursework with the internship that is a requirement of candidacy as a Deacon in the ELCA and other denominations.
Normally, students will complete the Master of Arts in Diaconal Ministry degree in two years.

Where does this path take you?
Nearly 100% of WTS graduates serve as Deacons within 18 months of graduation. Recent MADM graduates serve in a variety of roles ranging from ethnic-specific mission developers to chaplains and youth & young adult ministry leaders. The MADM allows those pursuing rostering as a Deacon the flexibility to be entrepreneurial in their academic work and in dreaming up a call with the church.
